This Lunch Talk will provide an overview of what a test lab does (and doesn't) do, the standards underpinning the evaluation of biometrics products and why testing is so important. The main threats and vulnerabilities facing biometric systems are described (covering presentation and injection attacks for different modalities), as well as the impact of machine learning and AI techniques; in particular, the growth of deep fake attacks and other emerging threats and vulnerabilities.

Curriculum vitæ

Dr. Chris Allgrove is an experienced SME, with extensive experience in digital identity and biometrics in the public sector, industry and academia. Chris is co-founder of a biometrics services company delivering consultancy, test and research and development and training services to a range of clients. He provides advice and guidance on the use of biometrics with digital identities, and has authored a number of UK Government guidance documents and standards in this area. In addition to working as a biometrics consultant with the World Bank, Chris is actively involved in international standards and a number of international industry bodies. Previously, Chris was the Head of Identity in Government for the National Cyber Security Centre.

The 11^th edition of the EAB Research Projects Conference is organised by the European Association on Biometrics (EAB)

The conference is currently the largest event on research funded by the European Union in the area of Biometrics and Identity Management. Over the previous successful editions, EAB-RPC has become the main forum in Europe where attendees can simultaneously: promote research carried out in biometrics, forge new links and networks, and identify the appropriate partners for possible future project applications. Last year’s edition welcomed over 70 participants from academia, industry and public institutions.

EAB is launching the eighteenth European Biometric Max Snijder, Research, and Industry Awards. These prestigious awards are granted annually to individuals who have been judged by a panel of internationally respected experts to be making a significant contribution to the field of biometrics research in Europe.

The BIOSIG 2024 conference addresses current issues in the area of biometrics and will present innovations and best practices that can be transferred into future applications.

Workshop of the Biometrics Working Group of TeleTrusT, the IT Security Association in Germany

The IFPC 2025, takes place as in-person with remote participation mode, from April 1 until 3, 2025. The IFPC focuses on all technical factors affecting the deployment and use of high performance face recognition applications, including applications, standards, quality assessment,human aspects, demographic aspects, demographic effects, age and ageing effects, presentation attack detection, morphing datasets, their preparation, training and tuning, non-cooperative uses, accuracy measurement, and performance tests.

With support of the Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate, the conference aims to assemble speakers from all over the world involved in face recognition development, procurement, deployment as well as operations. The main aim of the IFPC is to bring greater maturity to face recognition by improving performance, transparency and trustworthiness. Furthermore, during this event, speakers have the opportunity to present proposals for technical or policy presentations which address problems that might influence face recognition operations and applications. The IFPC focuses on improving relevant factors concerning face recognition, including performance, transparency and trustworthiness.

IWBF is an international forum devoted to facilitating synergies in research and development among the areas of multimedia forensics, forensic biometrics, and forensic science. State-of-the-art research in areas such as biometrics, forensic science, surveillance, and multimedia forensics will be presented. The 9th edition of IWBF will be a meeting place for those concerned with the use of advanced biometric technologies in forensic applications, attracting participants from industry, research, academia, and end-users.
