The International Standard ISO/IEC 29794-5 Biometric sample quality - Part 5: Face image data was recently published. Along with this new standard the source code of the Open-Source Face Image Quality (OFIQ) software library was provided, which is the reference implementation of this standard.

The standard defines a unified quality score (UQS) for a face image and numerous, component quality measures (CQM), which provide accurate information such as the correctness of the pose or the sharpness of the face image (and many others).

This virtual meeting will provide an overview of the functionality provided with OFIQ and will give users an opportunity to raise questions and provide feedback. The dial-in information will be provided the evening before the event.

IWBF is an international forum devoted to facilitating synergies in research and development among the areas of multimedia forensics, forensic biometrics, and forensic science. The Biometrics and Machine Learning (BioML) research group of the University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBwM), in cooperation with the European Association for Biometrics (EAB), will host a workshop on June 1 to 3, 2026, to discuss the current status of biometrics for defence and law enforcement, focusing on technical aspects and open challenges (e.g., attacks on biometric systems or privacy leaks). We invite all stakeholders, including academia, government agencies, LEAs, defense personnel, and industry, to participate in this event and help us pave the way forward for a more secure society using biometric recognition!
