Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) ranks among the most controversial and challenging topics in the identity industry. Foundational to trust, a modern identity system must at a minimum detect fraudulent spoof attempts while enabling convenient, accurate identification and matching. Most biometric PAD systems are quite simple in concept but dramatically complex in execution. During this talk, Andrew explores the journey Integrated Biometrics took from early trials and errors to the modern successful ecosystem of technology they deploy. By examining this specific case study within fingerprint biometrics, the audience will take away general principles broadly applicable to the identity industry.

Curriculum vitæ

Andrew Wise is the Director of Quality at Integrated Biometrics. His technical leadership helps drive improvement of core system architectures, control processes, and automated validation testing. He has written numerous white papers on PAD and was a leading member of the team that developed and deployed IB’s current PAD ecosystem. In previous roles at IB, he worked on design teams to optimize electronics hardware while incorporating FMEA principles. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Minor in Leadership in 2018 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
