Role: Project Manager - Research & Innovation Communication (Full-Time Freelance or Employment)

  • Location: Remote (in Europe) or The Netherlands (preferred)
  • Working hours: Full-time (40 hours/week)
  • Start date: As soon as possible

About the Role

We are seeking a talented and versatile professional to lead and execute communication and dissemination activities in European-funded research and innovation projects. You will play a central role in making complex innovation stories accessible, engaging, and impactful — working closely with project partners across Europe to deliver high-quality content, events, and stakeholder engagement. You will also join a dynamic team, collaborating everyday with our COO and driven colleagues!

This is an exciting opportunity for a communicator who thrives at the intersection of technology, strategy, and creativity, and who wants to contribute to innovation that matters. Beyond your core role in EU projects, you will have the chance to actively shape and support activities within the European Association for Biometrics (EAB), based on your interests and career goals.

Key Responsibilities

In EU R&I Projects

  • Lead and implement the strategy and plans of projects' Dissemination & Communication work packages.
  • Translate technical concepts into compelling content (e.g., articles, social media posts, web updates, newsletters, press releases).
  • Manage project communication channels (LinkedIn, Mailchimp, websites, etc.) using tools such as Canva, Teams, WordPress, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver project events (e.g. workshops, conferences, webinars).
  • Liaise with consortium partners and support reporting to the European Commission.
  • Review new calls of EU’s funding programme for research and innovation and other relevant programmes, project proposals and Consortium & Grant Agreements

In the EAB (optional & based on interest)

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the EAB Academy (trainings, webinars).
  • Shape marketing and communication campaigns to grow our community and visibility.
  • Review European Policy on biometrics and digital identity and create awareness by initiating and writing position papers and policy briefs.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in communication, dissemination, or stakeholder engagement — ideally within Horizon Europe or similar EU programmes.
  • BSc or MSc in European Studies, Communication, Marketing or Journalism or a related discipline at similar level.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical or scientific content, and translate it into clear, engaging formats.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C1+).
  • Strong proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms (e.g., Office 365, LinkedIn, Mailchimp, Canva, Teams, WordPress).
  • Experience in organising and promoting events, both online and on-site.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote and international environment. <<
  • 3+ years of experience in EU funded projects and/or grant-based projects (rules, structure, collaboration).
  • Independent and creative worker with organisational skills and a collaborative spirit
  • Bonus: Experience with proposal writing or policy work.
  • Bonus: Based in the Netherlands or within easy reach for occasional meetings.
