How to get there
Coming to Fraunhofer IGD by the Airliner express bus is the most convenient solution.
Bus: If you land at Frankfurt/Main airport (FRA), you can take the Airliner express bus from Terminal 1, bus stop number 14 to “Darmstadt Kongresszentrum darmstadtium”. From there, you can walk 4 minutes along Fraunhoferstrasse to reach Fraunhofer IGD.
This bus runs every 30 minutes and a ticket costs €10,40. Payment is made directly to the driver, but please note that cash is no longer accepted.
The buses have Wi-Fi and are comfortable. The journey takes only 35 minutes, which is faster than the train.
Rail: There are no direct trains between Frankfurt Airport and Darmstadt, so if you take the train you will need to change trains at the Frankfurt main station. Train plus bus from the station to Fraunhofer IGD is approx. 55 min. For timetable details, see the Deutsche Bahn website. You can also download the mobile app DB Navigator (available on iOS and Android).
Train tickets can be bought at the train station at a Deutsche Bahn self-service kiosk, or via the DB Navigator app.
There is a possibility to buy cheaper tickets through the app. The Deutsche Bahn website only offers more expensive monthly-subscription tickets, whereas the DB Navigator app often makes it easier to find cheaper single tickets.
Taxi: You can take a taxi to/from the Frankfurt airport. This costs between €50-70 one way.
Car: From Frankfurt take the A5 highway to Basel/Flughafen/Frankf. Kreuz. Take exit 25-Weiterstadt for B42 toward Darmstadt-Nord. Keep right, then merge onto Carl-Schenk-Ring, then turn right onto Frankfurter Strasse. Turn left onto Rhönring, then right onto Heinheimer Strasse. Continue onto Heinheimer Strasse and turn right onto Landgraf-Georg-Strasse then right again onto Fraunhoferstrasse. Fraunhofer IGD will be on your left. There is currently no visitor parking.

Transportation from Darmstadt central station: Fraunhofer IGD can be easily accessed from the Darmstadt train station with just a 15-minute tram or bus ride:
- Tram 2 (direction Darmstadt Kongresszentrum darmstadtium) until the last stop
- Tram 3 (direction Darmstadt Lichtenbergschule) to Darmstadt Schloss
- Bus H (direction Darmstadt-Kranichstein Kesselhutweg) to Darmstadt Alexanderstrasse/TU
- Bus K (direction Darmstadt Alfred-Messel-Weg) to Darmstadt Alexanderstrasse/TU
- Walking takes about 35 minutes
